👇 Use any of these strategies ?

Class Dojo.

Catch them being good.

A stern glance. A class rules contract?

Are they worthwhile?

How do you know?

Begin with first principles. As Elon Musk says start from what we are sure is true and “reason up from there”. For teachers this means tracking challenging behaviour.

Without tracking we rely on mental shortcuts. Rule of thumb strategies. It’s easier right?

Like it was easier to agree that the picture above was a bird when it is a cat with it’s head turned to the side. We bring our own existing beliefs to the classroom. Stop cognitive bias and and unhelpful heuristics by tracking.

Use this tool
I use a simple spreadsheet to track any behaviors that merit focus. These include challenging behavior, anxiety or even transitions. I explain it in the video below.

Identify times that trigger anxiety. Use these truths to reduce them. Record, reflect and improve. You will no longer see the bird but the cat instead. You will reason up instead of using no reason at all.
